NTAC has created and compiled a variety of publications to help you understand Transportation Alternatives. All publications are available free of charge.

Many of NTAC's publications can be ordered as printed & bound publications. Bound copies are excellent for use when making presentations or as handouts for community members.

	NTAC Quarterly Conference Calls In December of 2012, NTAC began hosting a series of Conference Calls for Federal, State, and local administrators of the Transportation Alternatives Program. 	Transportation Alternatives Program Manual Development Guide For state DOTs and metropolitan planning organizations administering competitive programs to distribute Transportation Alternatives funds, developing a program manual can help articulate the history, structure, goals, eligibilities, implementation process, and common challenges of the program for potential project sponsors. This document is freely available for agencies developing their own Transportation Alternatives Program Manual. The template is also available as a Microsoft Word document.
	Quantitative Selection A competitive selection process helps states and transportation management areas balance the many factors in project selection by creating dialog targeted at the state and/or TMA's priorities before projects are submitted and reviewed. With this increased understanding, the quality of applications should improve, making the TA program more effective overall. This brief provides an overview of four states' competitive processes and offers recommendations for implementing new selection criteria.
	Transportation Alternatives Eligible Activities Transportation Alternatives (TA) refers to the 9 eligible definitions, which are a recasting of the former Transportation Enhancements program. The term Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) is an umbrella term used to refer to the total reservation of funding for the Safe Routes to School (SRTS) and Recreational Trails (RTP) programs which have been consolidated into one funding source with the 9 eligible TA activities. This document will highlight the eligible uses for each of the programs contained within the Transportation Alternatives Program reservation of funding.
	From SAFETEA-LU to MAP-21: Apportionments This document provides an overview of changes made to funding of transportation enhancements, Safe Routes to School, and Recreation Trails programs from SAFETEA-LU under the new Transportation Alternatives Program structure of MAP-21.
	MAP-21 and Its Effects on Transportation Enhancements This document summarizes the changes made to the former Transportation Enhancement program as the Transportation Alternatives 9 Elibilities under MAP-21.
	2011 Transportation Enhancements Spending Report This document provides an overview of how States spent their cumulative TE funds. All past reports are available for download via the Spending Reports Archive.
